LIR services

Your own addresses and AS number, without the membership

An AS number registered to you. Address space registered to you. We hold the RIPE membership and do the paperwork; the resources are yours - which means you can leave any provider that mistreats you. Including us.

Sponsoring LIR

The membership is ours; the paperwork too

RIPE NCC deals only with its members. To get an AS number or provider-independent space you either become a member yourself - an annual fee, a contract, database upkeep and policy homework - or you go through a sponsoring LIR that is already one. We run our own registry for our own network anyway; sponsoring your resources beside ours costs a fraction of a membership.

Independence

The resources belong to you

An ASN and PI space registered in your name are the difference between renting your identity from a provider and owning it. If a provider holds your addresses, leaving means renumbering everything you run. If the addresses are yours, leaving is a BGP session. We sell that independence knowing it applies to us too - we would rather keep customers by being good than by holding their addresses hostage.

provider-owned space: leaving = renumbering every host, every record, every ACL months
your PI space: leaving = one BGP session elsewhere an afternoon
IPv4, honestly

The free pool is history

RIPE ran out in November 2019; what remains is a waiting list measured in years. Real options today are two - rent from our allocations for as long as you need, or buy on the transfer market, where we handle the brokerage, the RIPE paperwork and the hygiene checks so you do not pay for a poisoned range.

What the service covers

Registration

AS numbers and PI space

ASN registration through our sponsorship - needed the moment you want BGP, more than one upstream, or an exchange port. Provider-independent IPv6 alongside it, so the network you build is portable from day one.

IPv4

Rental and transfer

Clean ranges from our own allocations on rental, or a brokered purchase on the transfer market with the RIPE paperwork done by us. Every range is checked against blocklists and reputation feeds before you touch it.

Registry

RIPE Database, kept correct

inetnum, route and route6 objects, maintainers, abuse-c and the rest - created properly and kept current. A stale registry object is how announcements get filtered and how abuse mail goes unanswered until it becomes a problem.

Routing security

RPKI, set up and maintained

ROAs for every prefix at no extra charge, because unsigned space is increasingly space that does not propagate. If you buy transit from us, invalids are already dropped at our border - the two halves meet.

Hygiene

Reverse DNS and geolocation

rDNS delegation managed for free, and geolocation corrections pushed to the databases that matter when your users end up with the wrong language, the wrong shop or the wrong content licence.

Reputation

Watched, not just registered

Blocklist and reputation monitoring on your ranges with alerts when something changes, and help with delisting when a customer of yours earns you an entry. Addresses are an asset; this is the maintenance.

Who this is for

Pairs naturally with transit. Resources registered this week can be announced through our transit the same week, behind the same DDoS filter as everything else - and if the plan is to multihome, the consulting page describes how we design exactly that.

Frequently asked

Can I get an ASN without becoming a RIPE member?

Yes - that is exactly what a sponsoring LIR is for. We hold the membership and do the paperwork; the AS number is registered to you and usable within days.

Is there any IPv4 left?

Not in the free pool - it ran out in November 2019 and the waiting list is measured in years. Realistic options are renting from our allocations or buying on the transfer market, where we broker and handle the RIPE paperwork.

If I leave, do I keep the addresses?

Yes. PI space and your ASN are registered to you - portable to any sponsoring LIR, including away from us. We sell that independence on purpose.

Are RPKI and reverse DNS extra?

No - ROAs are created and maintained at no charge, and rDNS delegation is managed for free. Unsigned space increasingly just does not propagate, so signing it is not an upsell, it is hygiene.

A range I rented turns up on a blocklist. Then what?

We monitor reputation on every range and alert you when something changes - and we help with the delisting, because addresses are an asset only while they are clean.
